1.  Track and Field

    a) Dolph participated in the Senior Olympics (Games) between May 17, 2000 until May 7, 2008. He won a total of 71 medals during this period in several states and the District of Columbia (see Photo). He qualified for the National Senior Olympics (Games) in the 50 and 100 meters and long jump in each of the qualifying years that he participated in the DC games. (see Photos).

    b) Dolph was paralyzed from his neck throughout his torso on May 25, 2012 (see story entitled An unexpected journey back from paralysis under the tab designated Unpublished in this website). He resumed participating in the Senior Games, Washington, DC on May 1, 2018 in the 80-84 year old age bracket. He ran in the 50 and 100 meters, did the long jump, shot put, football toss and softball toss. He won gold medals in the 50 and 100 meters and long jump, and silver medals in the shot put, and football and softball tosses. 

    c) Dolph also participated in the Senior Games in Henrico, Virginia on May 19, 2018 in the 80-84 year old age bracket in the 50 meters and long jump. He won silver medals in both these events.

    d) Dolph developed inflammation in his sciatic nerve in February, 2019. When this nerve is inflamed, it radiates severe pain along the path of the nerve that branches from the lower back along the buttocks and upper legs. However, through specific exercises to relieve pain of the sciatic nerve, Dolph recovered sufficiently to compete in the Senior Games in Washington, DC on May 6, 2019 in the 80-84 year old age group. He ran in the 50 and 100 meters, did the long jump, shot put, football and soft ball tosses. He won a gold medal in the 50 meters, silver medals in the 100 meters and long jump, and bronze medals in the shot put, football and soft ball tosses. 

 2.  Black Belt

    Dolph began training in Tae Kwon Do with the Jhoon Rhee Institute of Tae Kwon Do on May 31, 1994 and obtained his Black Belt on September 12, 1997. He obtained all his belts (White, Gold, Green, Purple, Blue, Red, Second and First Brown) with the Jhoon Rhee Institute, but about six weeks before he was scheduled to take the Black Belt exam, the gym where he trained broke ties with the Jhoon Rhee Institute. Dolph took his Black Belt exam through his local gym, the Black Belt Martial Arts Center, and obtained his Black Belt on September 12, 1997 (see Photos).

3. Sporting Events

    Dolph has always wanted to attend a Major League Baseball Allstar Game and a final World Series Game which decided the team that would be World Champions for one year. In addition, he has wanted to see a Super Bowl Game since the inception of Super Bowl games in January, 1967.  He attended each of these sporting events as follows:

    a) Super Bowl XXVI between Washington and Buffalo January 26, 1992 was played in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN. Washington won 37-24 (see Photos)

    b) Major League Allstar (MLB) Game. Dolph saw an Allstar MLB game in Washington, DC when the Washington Nationals hosted the game on July 17, 2018. He was accompanied by Brad Carlson, who had worked with Dolph and managed his laboratory in the National Cancer Institute for more than 20 years. (No Photos available)

    c) World Series Games 4 and 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros were played on October 26, 2019 in Washington and October 30, 2019 in Houston. Dolph and his daughter, Sandy, attended both of these games. The Astros won Game 4, 8-1, and the Nationals won the final game, Game 7, and the World Series, 6-2 (see Photos). After the Nationals won, Sandy and Dolph celebrated with a hug (see Video).
